This is why a Romanian registered Airbus A320 used CLPR91 callsign operating into Kabul airport
At August 22 2021 an Airbus A320 (YR-SEA) operated by the small Romanian airline Star East Airline landed at Kabul airport. The aircraft used a seldom used callsign CLPR91. The aircraft earlier departed from Istanbul, arrived at the Isa Air Base in Bahrain and then flew to Kabul. Ater departure from Kabul it flew to Bahrain again with Afghan refugees.
The CLPR91 callsign makes this an interesting flight. It cleary flew passengers and because it landed at a military air based in Bahrain it was very likely operating for the US military. But why was it using the CLPR91 callsign on all of its flights?
A search on Internet learned that at August 18, 2020 a Boeing 737 operated by Wings of Lebanon flew from Lebanon to Iraq’s Ain Al Asad base using the CLPR91 callsign.
At March 22 2021 a Freebird Airlines A320 flew to Ain Al Asad base using the CLPR91 callsign. So both flights were clearly for military purposes.
After some more research I found out the callsign which is used by Stanton Defense Industries. This is a company specialized in logistics for the US Armed Forces. They charter commercial jets for various tasks.
Flights by Star East A320 to and from Kabul
After August 22 the aircraft did severall other flight to and from Kabul to fly evacuees out of Afghanistan. On August 26 the intention was to land at Kabul again but it did not land and diverted to Islamabad in Pakistan.
