Congo military is operating a ‘new’ IL-76 registered 9T-TIB

Since around October 2023 the Congo military is operating an IL-76 freighter registered 9T-TIB (serial #: 0093491754 and using hex #08CBBB) The aircraft is former TransAviaExport EW-78799. The aircraft used different registrations in 2023 . It was photographed in Minsk, Belarus as 9S-AAV in March 2023. It then used 9S-PII which was probably used as a ferry registration for the flight from Belarus to Congo. It was later registered to the Congo military registration which uses 9T-xxx.

The aircraft visited Waterkloof airforce base near Pretoria, South Africa several times in December 2023. It was hired by the South Africa armed forces to transport material for the MONUSCO mission of the armed forces in Congo.

As a result of the hot temperaures at day time in summer and the elevation of Waterkloof the aircraft had to take off in the middle of the night. After departure from Waterkloof it first had to fly to Lanseria to get fuel as there are jet fuel shortages at Waterkloof.

Confirmed visits to South Africa were at December 16, 18
