Russian Aviacon IL76 lands at remote former French airbase in Chad

Il-76 RA-76502 of Russian Aviacon Zitotrans was seen while landing at the remote airport of Faya-Largeau in Chad. This is remarkable as just a few weeks before the Chad government terminated the military cooperation with France. As a result the French armed forces are departing Chad. The aircraft likely was at Faya-Largeau around December 13-15, 2024.

Benjamin Strick on X found a video on TokTok showing the landing of the IL76. He geolocated the airport as Faya-Largeau.

RA-76502 has been below the radar of flighttrackers like FR24 since early November. It was last tracked November 9 when the aircraft departed Jeddah heading towards Somalia. Around November 8 the aircraft it was reported the aircraft landed at Port Sudan.

A video shown in Google Maps uploaded around end of November shows a French Air force A400 at the airport.
